How can young people use art to talk about the future of our planet? That was the question behind Europe Our Planet, an Erasmus+ youth exchange hosted by European Trainee Academy Spain (EUTA) in October 2025. It brought together 44 young singers, dancers and actors: 23 from the Prague Music Academy (Hudební Akademie Praha Pavla Zumrová, Czech Republic) and 21 local students from Novaschool Medina Elvira in Granada.

About the project

For one week the participants worked together in mixed Czech-Spanish groups, connecting ecology and the performing arts. They looked at the relationship between people and nature, climate change, waste and the impact of technology on the planet. Then they turned their ideas into a joint theatre performance.

The work ran in parallel creative workshops:

  • Dance: the choreography The Language of Flowers (set to music by Luboš Sluka) and a big joint choreography, Apocalypse, about the chaos of overconsumption.
  • Singing: solo and group vocal coaching.
  • Drama: scenes in English from Karel Čapek’s classic The Insect Play.
  • Sustainable fashion: eight outfits designed and made entirely from waste and recycled materials.
  • Set design and video mapping: a large globe built from cardboard and recycled materials, which became the screen for a video mapping projection created by the participants.

Every morning started with reflection questions. Participants compared everyday life in Granada and Prague (clean streets, waste sorting), talked about what they were learning about themselves, and discussed what threatens our planet most and what solutions they could imagine.

The final performance

On 24 October 2025 the group staged its final performance at Teatro Flamenco Granada for an audience of family, friends and the local community. The show combined dance, singing, drama, a fashion show of recycled outfits and the video mapping on the globe. You can watch the full performance on YouTube:

Culture and community

Alongside the workshops, participants explored the cultural heritage of Andalusia. They had a guided tour of Granada, visited the gardens of the Alhambra and spent an evening at a flamenco show. The exchange ended with a shared day in Málaga: both groups met for a guided tour of the city, a final evaluation of the week and a warm farewell.

Learning and results

  • 44 young people from two countries created and performed a full show together, mostly in English.
  • Older and more experienced Czech participants acted as peer mentors for the younger Spanish students, and three of them co-led workshops.
  • Participants developed artistic, language and teamwork skills and a stronger sense of responsibility for the environment.
  • All participants received a Youthpass certificate recognising their non-formal learning.

Partners

  • Coordinator: Hudební Akademie Praha Pavla Zumrová, s.r.o. (Czech Republic) – https://happz.eu/erasmus/

The exchange was prepared during a preparatory visit in Benalmádena on 24–25 September 2025.
